Sunset Playground
Let's add a playground to the southern end of Riverdale Park East.Riverdale Park East is a beautiful, large park just over the Don Valley into the East End. On a sunny day or evening, the hill is filled with families enjoying the beautiful view and space. During the winter, the hill is one of the top tobogganing spots in the city. The city boasts a pool, seven tennis courts, an ice skating rink and pathway, adult exercise stations, a track, baseball diamond, and, according to popular playground reviewer “Danforth Dad,” a “heartbreakingly mediocre playground.”
The existing playground on the north end of the park is very small and set apart from the popular open spaces of the park. It is challenging to get to; many people do not even know it is there. There are no amenities for children in the main, open area of the park on the southern end. After school or on weekends, children often run around near Bridgepoint Hospital or the St. Matthew’s clubhouse, and caregivers ask each other, “Why isn’t there a playground here?”
